Can I place duplicate ads?

Please maintain one current listing for the same dog or offering instead of posting duplicates.

  1. Use My Dogs to update the original ad when the details change.
  2. Use Renew Ad for an expired listing rather than starting another copy.
  3. Create separate ads for different dogs or genuinely different offerings, and put each in the appropriate section.

Keep in mind: Repeated copies can confuse buyers and may be declined during approval. Follow the Rules for Posting.

Do I have to own a kennel to purchase a Kennel Account?

You do not need a business with “kennel” in its name to choose an advertising plan. Pick the plan whose benefits fit the services you need.

  1. Compare the features and prices on Account Upgrades.
  2. For a business directory listing without an account advertising package, compare the directory listing options available from the directory’s Get Listed button.
  3. If you are unsure which service fits your business, contact support before purchasing.

Keep in mind: Use your real name for the account holder and your business name in the business or kennel fields.

How can I update or change my dog ad?

Manage your existing listing from your account instead of placing a duplicate ad.

  1. Sign in and open My Dogs.
  2. Find the listing and choose Update Ad. Change the details, section, price, or primary photo as needed.
  3. Save the form and check the confirmation and listing status. An edit may put the ad back into the approval queue.

Keep in mind: For more pictures or video, use the listing’s Photos & Video controls when available for your plan.

How do I add a video to my dog ad?

Video availability depends on the features included with your ad or account plan.

  1. Save the ad first, then open My Dogs and locate the listing.
  2. Open Photos & Video and use the video upload option if it is available.
  3. Follow the file-size and format instructions shown there. Allow up to 24 hours for us to convert your video to a streaming format before it displays on the ad. You should see a placeholder until the video has been reviewed and approved.
  4. After conversion and approval, return to the ad to play the video. If the upload fails or the video is still unavailable after 24 hours, contact support.

Keep in mind: Do not place a second copy of the ad to retry a video upload. Check your plan if the video option is unavailable.

How do I add pictures to my dog ad?

You can upload the primary photo while creating or updating the ad.

  1. Open Place New Ad, or choose Update Ad for an existing listing in My Dogs.
  2. In the Picture area, choose the image from your device, then save the ad. The form shows the supported formats and upload limit.
  3. The ad is saved first and the primary photo uploads separately. If the upload fails, your saved ad remains available so you can retry.
  4. For additional images, open the listing’s Photos & Video controls when included with your plan.

Keep in mind: A Free ad includes one primary photo. Upload only pictures you own or have permission to use.

How do I change the default photo on my dog ad?

The default or primary photo is the image used to represent your listing.

  1. Open My Dogs and find the listing.
  2. To replace its primary image, choose Update Ad, select a picture in the Picture area, and save.
  3. If your plan supports a photo gallery, open Photos & Video and use the default-photo control for the image you want to show first.
  4. Reload the public ad to check the result. If the old image persists, refresh the page and allow for image-cache updates.

Keep in mind: Uploading a gallery image does not always make it the default automatically.

How do I contact a seller?

Open the dog’s full ad to see the contact options the seller has made available.

  1. Read the description and check that the dog or service is still available.
  2. Use the private-message or seller-contact option on the ad. Sign in if prompted.
  3. If a phone number or website is displayed, you can use it to contact the seller directly. Public contact information depends on the seller’s privacy settings.

Keep in mind: Herding Dog Central does not hold the dog for you or complete the sale. Verify the seller and avoid overpayment or shipping-payment scams.

  1. Open the Puppy Shot Calendar from the Tools menu.
  2. Enter the puppy or litter name and its whelp date, then choose Generate Calendar.
  3. Review the dates with your veterinarian. Use the print or download option for the generated record, or choose Blank Record PDF for a blank sheet.

How do I enter or update my kennel and directory information?

Your account settings, business directory listing, and classified ads are managed separately from the Control Panel.

  1. Sign in and open your Control Panel.
  2. Use Update Kennel to open My Directory. Select your existing listing to update it, or use the add-listing option if you do not have one.

  4. Add the primary photo while completing the listing. After saving, use its photo controls for additional pictures if your plan includes them.

How long does it take for my ad to appear?

Submitting an ad saves it to your account. It may still need approval before visitors can see it.

  1. Open My Dogs from your Control Panel and check the ad’s status.
  2. If it is pending approval, allow time for the review. Approval is usually completed within 24 hours, but can take longer.
  3. After approval, check the breed and section you selected, and clear any search filters that could hide the ad.

Keep in mind: Updating an ad can require another review. If you cannot find the saved ad in My Dogs, make sure you are signed into the account that created it.

How long will my ad run?

A basic Free ad runs for 30 days. Paid accounts and individual ad upgrades can have different terms.

  1. Open My Dogs and check the status and expiration information for the specific listing.
  2. Use Renew Ad when available to reuse an expired listing without entering it again.
  3. If you have an active Breeder or Kennel Account, an eligible update to an ad more than 30 days old refreshes its ad dates under your account benefits.

Keep in mind: Account benefits depend on an active account plan. A separately purchased ad upgrade keeps its own term. Use the dates shown on the listing and subscription rather than assuming an ad runs forever.

New accounts need email activation before they can use member features.

  1. Check the inbox for the email address you used at signup, including Spam, Junk, and Promotions.
  2. Allow up to 15 minutes for the message to arrive. If you created several accounts, make sure you are checking the correct mailbox.
  3. Sign in to your new account. Enter the code on the Activation Required page.

I have a paid account. Why did I receive an ad expiration notice?

Check the specific listing and subscription before deciding whether action is needed. An ad term and an account term are separate dates.

  1. Open My Dogs and check the status and expiration date of the ad mentioned in the email.
  2. Check that your Breeder or Kennel Account is still active. Included benefits stop when the qualifying account subscription expires.
  3. If the ad is more than 30 days old, update it as needed; eligible ads under an active Breeder or Kennel Account receive refreshed ad dates.
  4. If the notice and your current account or ad status do not agree, contact support with the ad ID and the notice details.

Keep in mind: Do not automatically disregard expiration emails. A separately purchased ad upgrade can also have its own expiration date.

I posted an ad but cannot find it on the website.

Start by checking the saved listing in your own account.

  1. Open My Dogs while signed into the account that submitted the ad.
  2. Check whether it is pending, expired, sold, or removed. Those states can prevent it from appearing among available dogs.
  3. If it is active and approved, check the selected breed and section. Clear filters or searches that might exclude it.
  4. If you still cannot find an approved active listing, contact support with its ad ID or link.

Keep in mind: An ad appearing in My Dogs confirms it was saved; it does not by itself mean it has been approved for public display.

I purchased an ad upgrade. Why does my account still say Free?

An upgrade purchased for one ad changes that listing’s features. It does not change your overall account plan.

  1. Check your order in Order History and confirm that payment completed.
  2. Open My Dogs and check the particular ad you selected for the purchase.
  3. To upgrade the account itself, compare Account Upgrades. If a completed order has not applied to the correct ad, contact support with the order and ad IDs.

Keep in mind: The Free Account label in the Control Panel can be correct even when one of your ads has a paid upgrade.

I uploaded a new picture, but the old one is still showing.

First check whether the new image was saved and whether it is the primary photo.

  1. Open My Dogs and review the listing’s photo or media controls. Check that the upload completed successfully.
  2. If the new image is an additional gallery picture, use the default-photo control to make it the main picture.
  3. Reload the public ad. Your browser or the site’s image cache may temporarily show an older copy.
  4. If the saved primary photo is still wrong after refreshing, contact support with the ad ID and a description of the image you selected.

Keep in mind: You do not need to create another ad to replace a picture.

Is the pedigree AI analysis the same as verified dog statistics?

No. The dog-statistics page calculates figures from linked records. The AI deep analysis is a separately stored interpretation and may be missing for some dogs.

Where available, choose Read AI deep analysis from the dog-statistics page. Opening that page displays the stored report; it does not request a new analysis.

AI text may contain mistakes or be outdated. Check important claims against original records and appropriate professional advice. Neither the AI report nor pedigree statistics are a genetic test.

My activation code does not match. How can I activate my account?

An activation code must match the account you are signed into.

  1. Confirm that you signed in with the username or email address for the account you just created.
  2. Copy the activation code from that account’s activation email. Paste only the code, without surrounding spaces.
  3. If you have multiple activation emails, use the most recent one for that account.
  4. If the code still fails, contact support with your username and signup email address. Do not create duplicate accounts to work around the error.

Renew the saved listing rather than retyping it.

  1. Sign in and open My Dogs. Locate the expired listing.
  2. Choose Renew Ad when available. Review the details and any plan or payment options shown.
  3. Confirm the renewal, then check the new status and expiration date. A renewed ad may still need approval.

A pending ad has been saved but is not yet approved for public display.

  1. Check the listing in My Dogs and make sure its details follow the Rules for Posting.
  2. Look for a message from support about changes needed to the listing.
  3. If it has been several days, contact support with the ad ID or link, the ad title, and the username or email address on your account.

Keep in mind: Avoid repeatedly submitting copies or making unnecessary edits while waiting for review. Support does not need your password.

What do the dog statistics on a Vault record mean?

Open a dog’s Pedigree Vault record and follow its dog-statistics link to see the information available for that dog.

The report counts linked offspring records and summarizes recorded sex, color and mates. Inferred litters group offspring with the same sire, dam and birth date; they are not a confirmed litter registry or a complete count of puppies born.

Missing records or dates can affect the results. Read How to read these numbers on the statistics page before comparing dogs. Pedigree completeness also matters when interpreting the reported coefficient of inbreeding (COI).

What is the difference between a public pedigree and the Pedigree Vault?

A member pedigree is a pedigree a user creates or manages. The Pedigree Vault is the reference database maintained through the site’s pedigree administration.

  1. Use My Pedigrees to manage the pedigrees assigned to your account.
  2. When building a pedigree, autocomplete can search eligible Vault records and your own pedigrees. Other members’ private pedigrees should not be exposed through your autocomplete.
  3. Check the source information and any review or verification indicators when using pedigree data.

Keep in mind: A displayed pedigree is not, by itself, an independent guarantee of registration, parentage, health, or performance.

Why can’t I include my website link in a Free ad?

Free ads are intended to give buyers the information they need directly on Herding Dog Central. External promotional website links are reserved for the advertising options that include them.

  1. Include a useful description, your primary photo, the dog’s details, and the built-in pedigree information in the listing itself.
  2. Use your account’s contact and privacy settings to control how buyers can reach you.
  3. If you want to promote your website or kennel brand, compare Account Upgrades and the available directory and advertising services.

Keep in mind: Please do not use a Free ad simply to redirect visitors elsewhere. See the Rules for Posting for the current requirements.

Why does my ad not display my phone number or address?

Your public contact information depends on both your saved account details and your privacy preferences.

  1. Open your Control Panel and use the contact-information shortcut to check that your phone number and address are correct.
  2. Open Edit Preferences or Update Privacy. Review Show Phone Number on profile page and Show Street Address on profile page.
  3. Save your preferences, then view the public listing or profile to check what a visitor can see.

Keep in mind: Only make information public if you want visitors to see it. Private messaging remains a separate way for buyers to contact you.

Why does my listing show a stud fee instead of a sale price?

The listing type controls how the amount is described. A stud fee advertises a breeding service, not the sale of the dog.

  1. Open My Dogs and choose Update Ad.
  2. Check both the Section and the For Sale selection. Use the appropriate sale section and Yes for a dog offered for sale; choose Stud fee for a breeding fee.
  3. Use Call to display Call instead of a numeric price, or OBO for the entered price with the or-best-offer wording.
  4. Save the change and check the public ad after any required approval.

Keep in mind: Changing the amount alone does not change a stud listing into a sale listing.
